A Polish mushroom enthusiast discovered a rare fungus in the Himalayas, known as yarsagumba, which can sell for over $100,000 per kilogram. Piotr Grześ shared his find on social media, expressing excitement about locating this prized mushroom at the foot of the Gangapurna and Annapurna mountains. Yarsagumba, valued in traditional Chinese medicine, is a parasitic fungus that infects caterpillars. Despite its high market value, collectors in Nepal receive only a fraction of the price. The species is classified as vulnerable due to overharvesting and climate change. Grześ also found another unique mushroom during his expedition, further showcasing the biodiversity of the region.
