The iconic Tatra trams have officially retired from Bucharest's public transport after 53 years of service, deemed unsafe by the mayor. A special event allowed residents to view the trams one last time. Six Tatra trams will be preserved as heritage pieces. Mayor Ciprian Ciucu shared his nostalgic memories of riding these trams during his childhood. The Tatra trams were introduced in the 1970s to modernize the fleet and were known for their reliability and innovative braking system. However, they began to decline in the 2000s due to age and lack of spare parts.
