In Arad, Romania, a glass parapet on a flood defense dam, costing €2 million, has been severely damaged by vandalism. Almost all 300 glass panels have been broken after being hit by stones. The panoramic dam, completed five years ago with EU funding, was designed to enhance flood management along the Mureș River. Local residents reported that the vandalism occurred mainly during evenings when groups of youths gathered in the nearby park. The local authorities have been notified, and police patrols have increased in the area. The damage is primarily aesthetic, and while the glass is cracked, it is expected to withstand water pressure during floods. A decision on repairs will be made by a designated committee.
