A section of the A1 Sibiu – Pitești highway is set to open soon, featuring Romania's first highway tunnel. The 9.8 km stretch includes the Momaia tunnel, which is nearly complete at 99%. The opening depends on safety tests for the tunnel, with final evaluations scheduled for late September. The tunnel was constructed using the NATM method, allowing for traditional excavation and reinforcement. If opened by the end of September, it will be ahead of the contractual deadline of February 2027. The project, valued at 1.678 billion lei, is funded through the Transport Program 2021-2027.
