A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Indonesia, resulting in at least seven fatalities and significant building collapses. The quake, occurring at a shallow depth of 15 kilometers, triggered tsunami waves and numerous aftershocks. Many residents evacuated their homes in panic as the tremors lasted about a minute. Initial reports confirmed casualties primarily in the Sikka region of Flores Island, with ongoing assessments of damage. A tsunami alert was issued but later lifted after waves under one meter were recorded. Indonesia's location on the Pacific Ring of Fire makes it prone to seismic activity.
