Metrorex has showcased the operation of the tunnel boring machines "Sfânta Maria" and "Sfânta Ana" for the future M6 metro line. These machines, weighing around 600 tons, are currently excavating the southern section of the line. They create a circular tunnel while simultaneously installing concrete rings for structural support. The TBMs are equipped with advanced guidance systems and sensors to ensure precise navigation underground. On average, they advance about 1.5 meters per hour, excavating approximately 60 cubic meters of material. The project aims to connect Bucharest to Otopeni Airport, covering 14.2 kilometers with 12 stations.
