The oldest and largest cypress tree in Herăstrău Park has been saved after a rapid intervention by the city authorities. Mayor Ciprian Ciucu announced the successful operation, which involved nine people and two machines over eight hours. The tree, nearly 100 years old, was at risk due to erosion on the island's shore. A second cypress was also secured using a non-invasive support system called Cobra, which included five anchors. This intervention comes amid public concern over the fate of mature trees in the park due to ongoing infrastructure works. Following public outcry, the city paused tree removals to reassess each case individually, seeking alternative engineering solutions to protect valuable trees.
