The Icoanei Church, established 350 years ago, reflects the transformation of Bucharest from a peripheral area to a modern capital. Initially a wooden chapel, it evolved through various restorations and earthquakes, notably in 1839 and 1873. The church houses a revered icon from 1682, gifted by Constantin Brâncoveanu, and has become a significant cultural landmark. Nearby, the Icoanei Garden, once a swamp, was transformed into a public space in 1873. The church and its surroundings encapsulate the history of Bucharest, witnessing changes in society and architecture over centuries.
