The Austrian contractor PORR has completed the 9.86 km section of the Sibiu-Pitești Highway, including Romania's first highway tunnel, Momaia. The project finished six months ahead of schedule, with testing and reception of the works to follow. The Momaia tunnel, 1.35 km long, is a significant milestone for Romania's infrastructure. The section includes 12 bridges and passages, extensive excavation, and significant concrete use. The opening of traffic is expected in October, pending safety tests. The project is valued at 1.678 billion lei, funded by the Transport Program 2021-2027, allowing for 54 km of the highway to be operational once opened.
