The Turkish construction consortium Mapa-Cengiz has begun launching the metal deck on the highest viaduct of the A1 Sibiu-Pitești highway section 2. This operation utilizes hydraulic jacks for precise placement of metal pieces, as traditional cranes cannot be used due to the height of the structure. The metal deck weighs around 4,000 tons and is made of Corten steel, which requires less maintenance. Currently, 627 workers and 156 machines are mobilized on-site, focusing on tunnels and viaducts. However, only 45% of the planned activities can proceed due to the lack of environmental agreements. The contract is valued at 4.25 billion lei and aims to enhance connectivity between Muntenia and Transylvania.
