Hungary has initiated engineering works to raise the Danube's water level near the Paks nuclear power plant to ensure its operation amid declining water levels. Prime Minister Peter Magyar emphasized the need for immediate action due to a forecasted drop in the river's level, which previously forced the shutdown of three reactors. Construction of a dam and the sinking of barges are underway to redirect more water to the plant's supply channel. The dam project is expected to take about a month and cost approximately 16.5 million euros. Magyar also compared the situation with Romania's nuclear plant, which had to shut down completely.
