Alexandru Munteanu, a local councilor and vice president of USR Dâmbovița, was detained by DIICOT for allegedly violating sanctions against Belarus. The investigation involves a vertical lathe worth approximately €1.75 million, intended for a sanctioned Belarusian entity. Munteanu was apprehended following searches in multiple counties, with the case focusing on potential evasion of international sanctions and the transfer of dual-use products. The lathe was reportedly to be routed through intermediaries in Germany and Kazakhstan before reaching its final destination in Belarus. USR stated that if the allegations are confirmed, they will take appropriate statutory actions, including possible expulsion from the party.
