The City Hall of Bucharest plans to suspend disability benefits and eliminate Materna vouchers, restricting newborn aid to vulnerable families only. These proposals, initiated by Mayor Ciprian Ciucu due to a debt exceeding 650 million lei, will be voted on August 28. The suspension aims to address the financial strain caused by outstanding payments to around 52,000 beneficiaries. The Materna voucher program, which provided 2,000 lei for pregnant women, is also set to be abolished, as prenatal services are already covered by the national health system. Newborn aid will be limited to disadvantaged families, including those in critical situations or with disabilities.
