The interim Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, announced that Italy officially recognizes the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate in Italy. This law, signed by President Sergio Mattarella, follows unanimous approval from both chambers of the Italian Parliament. It will have practical effects for the Romanian community in Italy starting this August, allowing marriages officiated in Romanian churches to be recognized by the Italian state. Additionally, it guarantees access for priests to hospitals and nursing homes. Țoiu emphasized the significance of this recognition for over a million Romanians in Italy, highlighting the bipartisan support for the law. She noted that this achievement is the result of two years of work by the Romanian Embassy in Italy and the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate.
