In the first eight months of 2026, Romania's consolidated budget recorded a deficit of 59.42 billion lei, significantly lower than the previous year's 86.36 billion lei. This represents a 31% nominal reduction and a decrease in GDP percentage from 4.51% to 2.89%. The improvement is attributed to an 11.4% increase in revenues, outpacing a 4.2% rise in expenditures. Total revenues reached 468.10 billion lei, with notable contributions from VAT and income taxes. Expenditures totaled 527.53 billion lei, with a slight decrease in personnel costs but an increase in interest payments. The data indicates ongoing fiscal consolidation, supported by European funds, while emphasizing the need for prudent spending decisions.
