Verdict: Icoana Maicii Domnului de la Mănăstirea Nicula este originalul pictat de Luca din Iclod, în 1694 / Dispute privind locul unde se află ”adevărata icoană” au început acum peste 250 de ani
The original icon of the Virgin Mary from Nicula Monastery is confirmed to be created by Luca from Iclod, ending previous speculations. Dr. Ana Dumitran clarified this during a conference on September 8, 2026, coinciding with the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The icon, known for its miraculous properties, was believed to have wept in 1699, but it actually wept in 1694. It was donated to the monastery between 1670 and 1680 and returned in 1992 after being taken in 1948. The confusion arose from another icon that wept in 1699 but was lost by the 18th century. Dr. Dumitran, an expert in religious art, noted that the icon has undergone significant restoration over time.
