In the second quarter of 2026, the average monthly income of households in Romania reached 10,204 lei, marking an 8% increase from the previous quarter. Total monthly expenses also rose to 8,650 lei, reflecting a 7.6% increase year-on-year. The main source of income was salaries, accounting for 72.1% of total income, while social benefits contributed 19.6%. Urban households reported higher average incomes and expenses compared to rural ones. Notably, food and non-alcoholic beverages represented 32% of total consumption expenses, with education spending remaining minimal at 22 lei per household.
