Venice authorities plan to increase the entry fee for day tourists to 30 euros to combat overtourism. The current fee ranges from 5 to 10 euros, which is deemed insufficient. Discussions for the new rate are expected to take place with the government. The tourist tax, introduced in 2024, aims to encourage visitors to avoid peak times. In 2026, it generated over 5.2 million euros from nearly 680,000 tickets sold. Venice faces challenges of overtourism and depopulation, with daily visitors often exceeding the local population.
