In the summer of 2026, Romania faced a significant energy crisis due to extreme heat and drought, leading to a drop in energy production. The country, which has a capacity of nearly 19 GW, produced only 6.9 GW on critical days. While investments in solar and wind energy surged, the necessary infrastructure for energy storage and distribution lagged behind. A notable project in Ogrezeni aims to address this issue with a hybrid solar-storage system, expected to generate enough energy for 684,000 households. However, legislative and network modernization challenges remain, hindering effective integration of renewable energy. The government plans to install smart meters to enable dynamic pricing, encouraging consumers to shift usage to off-peak times, thus enhancing energy efficiency.
