Approximately 7,000 humanoid robots were sold globally last year, primarily for industrial and professional service sectors, according to the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). This figure is modest compared to forecasts of rapid growth, especially in China, the largest market for industrial robots. Humanoid robots must resemble humans and operate autonomously in human-designed environments. Despite impressive demonstrations and significant investments, humanoid robots represent only a small fraction of the total robot population. In contrast, around 542,000 conventional industrial robots and 199,000 service robots were installed in 2024. Many humanoid robots sold are used for research or AI data generation rather than productive activities. Bank of America estimates 90,000 humanoid robots will be delivered this year, with projections of 1.2 million by 2030.
