Retail sales in Romania decreased by 5% in the first eight months of 2026 compared to the previous year, driven by lower sales of non-food, food products, and fuels. Adjusted for working days and seasonality, the decline was 5.1%. Non-food sales fell by 6.1%, food and beverage sales by 4.2%, and fuel sales by 3.6%. In August 2026, retail sales increased by 0.5% from the previous month, with non-food sales rising by 2%. Compared to August 2025, retail sales grew by 0.9%, supported by a 2.7% increase in non-food sales, while food sales decreased by 2.3%.
