Electric vehicle sales in Europe have surged, reaching record levels in 2026 due to the introduction of affordable models. A report by Transport & Environment indicates that 1.64 million EVs were sold from January to August, marking a 45% increase compared to the previous year. EVs accounted for 22% of the market, a significant rise from 2025. The year is seen as pivotal for EV accessibility, with a 50% increase in model choices. European manufacturers dominate the market, providing nearly 60% of available models. Meanwhile, rising fuel prices have impacted gasoline and diesel vehicle sales, which have declined significantly. The share of fully electric vehicles in new registrations has increased to 20.7%.
