Electric vehicle sales in the EU reached a record high in the first eight months of 2026, driven by more affordable models and manufacturers' efforts to meet emission targets. A total of 1.64 million electric cars were sold, marking a 45% increase from the previous year. Electric vehicles accounted for 22% of total car sales, up six percentage points from 2025. The availability of electric models increased by 50%, with European manufacturers holding nearly 60% of the market share. Rising fuel prices due to geopolitical tensions have further boosted the appeal of electric vehicles among consumers.
