In the first eight months of 2026, Romania saw a rise in insolvencies, particularly in commerce and construction, with 4,782 firms and authorized individuals filing for insolvency. Bucharest recorded the highest number of cases at 861, while Covasna had the least with only 20. The data indicates a 4.85% increase in insolvencies compared to the same period last year. The wholesale and retail trade sector experienced the most significant rise in insolvencies, followed by construction and manufacturing. August alone saw 357 new insolvencies, with Bucharest leading again.
