USR leaders criticized the law as politically motivated against opponents, particularly targeting Dominic Fritz. They also condemned the Constitutional Court for endorsing the law. The Venice Commission was asked for an opinion by Gunn Marit Helgesen, highlighting concerns about the law's impact on local democratic representation. The Commission agreed to provide an opinion to be adopted in December 2026.
