Romania's exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea has been classified as a high-risk area due to a surge in attacks on commercial vessels. Maritime risk assessment firm Ambrey reported at least 45 incidents in the Black Sea, with over 70% occurring after July 1. The increase in attacks is linked to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, extending beyond Russian and Ukrainian waters. The Joint War Committee has added the Black Sea to its high-risk list, affecting insurance costs for shipping companies. The number of attacks in Russian and Ukrainian waters has also risen sharply, with a total of 156 incidents reported between July 1 and September 21, compared to just 12 last year.
