Nelu Soroiu recounted his experience of being interrogated by the Securitate upon returning to Romania in 1987, where a general asked him to choose a woman to accompany him during his stay. He had returned to see his ill mother, despite previous conflicts with the communist authorities. Soroiu entered Romania with special documents from U.S. authorities and was confronted by a general at the airport, who reminded him of his lost citizenship. After their discussion, he was taken to a villa in Olimp, where he was instructed to select a woman to avoid being seen with anyone else.
