The European Union will transfer an additional 1.4 billion euros to Ukraine from profits generated by frozen Russian assets. This marks the fifth transfer under the EU's mechanism for utilizing these profits. The EU is only using the profits, not the frozen assets, which remain untouched. So far, blocked Russian assets have generated around 8 billion euros in profits. The majority of the new funds will support Ukraine's loan repayments, while a smaller portion will address urgent defense needs. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that Russia must pay for the destruction caused in Ukraine, especially following recent deadly attacks.
