The proposal to abandon the consensus principle in EU decision-making could diminish the appeal of the bloc for smaller countries, according to Georgia's Parliament President, Shalva Papuashvili. He expressed concerns that smaller nations would struggle to protect their vital interests if decisions are made by majority rather than consensus. Papuashvili warned that such a change could lead to a significant loss of sovereignty for these countries and questioned the attractiveness of EU membership. He noted that smaller nations might prefer to remain outside the EU to maintain their decision-making independence.
