The vice president of ANRE proposed extending the operation of Unit 1 at the Cernavodă nuclear power plant for three more months to ensure energy supply during winter. Originally scheduled for shutdown at the end of this year for modernization, the 700 MW unit is deemed crucial for the upcoming winter. The vice president emphasized the need for contingency planning and mentioned the importance of coal units for regional energy supply. He expressed cautious optimism about the delayed Iernut and Mintia projects, while also highlighting potential risks related to gas storage during harsh winter conditions. Unit 1 is set for a 32-month shutdown starting January 2027 for extensive upgrades, with an investment of around 4 billion euros.
