Unirea cu România, „Planul B” al Moldovei în fața Rusiei. Transnistria și Găgăuzia, principalele provocări într-un astfel de scenariu
The geopolitical pressures from Russia and the war in Ukraine have revived discussions about the potential unification of Moldova with Romania. Although not officially on the agenda of either government, the idea resurfaces in the context of security and European integration. Moldova's strategic goal remains EU membership, with negotiations officially opened in June 2024. However, NATO membership is not a current policy, as Moldova maintains its constitutional neutrality. The presence of Russian troops in Transnistria and ongoing influence campaigns complicate the situation. While public support for unification varies, historical and cultural ties exist, yet any reunification would require democratic processes and address complex issues regarding Transnistria and Gagauzia. Currently, Moldova focuses on strengthening its European path and security cooperation with Western partners.
