Hungary is advancing the construction of the M49 highway towards the Romanian border, aiming for completion by mid-2029. The first section, connecting to the M3 highway, is already under construction. The next segment will extend to the border near Csenger, enhancing road connectivity between Hungary and Romania. A new border crossing is planned, along with a corresponding highway link to Satu Mare, improving access between northeastern Hungary and northern Transylvania. Romania has also approved plans for the Baia Mare-Satu Mare expressway, although construction has not yet started.
