Hungary will completely shut down the Paks nuclear power plant for the first time in 44 years due to record low Danube water levels. The plant, which provides over 40% of the country's electricity, relies on the river for cooling. Authorities warn it may remain closed for weeks, prompting plans for energy consumption restrictions, particularly for large industrial users. The population will be the last to face potential energy-saving measures, with additional costs from energy imports estimated at up to 240 billion forints.
