The government decided to prolong the measure, originally set to expire on September 7, after assessing risks associated with even minor changes to border protection laws. Magyar cited recent events in Ceuta, Spain, as evidence of how quickly migration routes can shift, leading to significant border crises. He emphasized that a single legislative gap could create unmanageable situations. Despite facing daily fines from the EU for its migration policies, Hungary argues it is protecting both its own borders and those of the EU. The government aims to establish a functional legal system to safeguard borders while respecting EU legislation.
