Hungary's Paks nuclear power plant is set to reach full operational capacity on Wednesday, alleviating a severe energy crisis caused by drought and low Danube water levels. The plant had to reduce its output to nearly 10% due to these conditions, prompting emergency measures including the construction of a dam to raise water levels. Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced that all four reactors are being successfully reconnected, with Reactor 3 already restarted. This will enable the plant to produce nearly 2,000 MW, covering about 40% of Hungary's energy needs. In contrast, Romania's Cernavodă nuclear plant has been completely offline since August 13, leading to significant energy deficits and reliance on costly imports, particularly from Bulgaria.
