The new Hungarian conservative government announced an increase in the minimum pension from 80 euros to 330 euros by January 2027, benefiting hundreds of thousands of seniors. Prime Minister Peter Magyar emphasized the unacceptable financial struggles faced by many elderly citizens. This decision follows Magyar's election victory in May against Viktor Orban's Fidesz party, which had been in power for over a decade. Currently, around 2.3 million retirees in Hungary receive pensions, with over 240,000 earning less than the new minimum. The average pension is approximately 660 euros, while the average salary is about 1,400 euros.
