The low water levels of the Danube are forcing the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary to halt operations within 24-72 hours. This plant, which generates nearly half of Hungary's electricity, relies on the Danube for cooling. Similar issues have arisen in Romania and Bulgaria, where nuclear facilities are also affected. The current water level is significantly below the record low from 2018, attributed to riverbed deepening and climate change. Authorities warn that the situation may worsen, impacting energy production.
