Ungaria deschide arhivele secrete ale fostelor servicii de securitate ale regimului comunist

Hungary is set to make accessible tens of thousands of documents from the former communist security services. An online database will allow searches of approximately 50,000 to 60,000 names. The first phase of publication is scheduled for November 4, with a second phase planned for February 25, 2027. Sensitive personal information will be anonymized, and the database will be hosted on external servers to manage high interest. This decision follows the adoption of a law to open these archives, fulfilling a long-standing promise after Hungary's democratic transition in 1990. The archives contain documents from 1944 to 1990, detailing surveillance and repression under the communist regime.
