Hungary is set to make available tens of thousands of documents from former communist security services, with an online database allowing searches of around 50,000-60,000 names. The first phase of publication is scheduled for November 4, expanding access beyond researchers and relatives. Users can search by various criteria, but sensitive personal information will be anonymized. The second phase, planned for February 25, 2027, will release about 9,000 additional files. This decision follows a recent law passed by the Hungarian Parliament to open these archives, fulfilling a long-standing promise after the democratic transition in 1990.
