A Hungarian appeals court has reduced the sentence of a German activist from eight to seven years for her involvement in violence against participants of a far-right rally in Budapest. The activist, identified as Maja T., was initially sentenced in February 2023, with both prosecution and defense appealing the decision. Prosecutors sought a 14-year sentence, while the defense argued for acquittal. The court found Maja T. to be an accomplice rather than a principal offender and not part of a criminal organization. She was extradited from Germany to Hungary in December 2024, despite a German court ruling the extradition illegal due to concerns over potential inhumane treatment.
