A Hungarian appeals court has reduced the sentence of a German activist from eight to seven years for her involvement in assaults during a far-right rally in Budapest. The activist, identified as Maja T., was initially sentenced in February 2023, with both prosecution and defense appealing the decision. Prosecutors sought a 14-year sentence, while the defense argued for acquittal. The court found Maja T. to be an accomplice rather than a principal offender and not a member of a criminal organization. After her arrest in Berlin, she was extradited to Hungary, although Germany's Constitutional Court later ruled the extradition illegal due to concerns over potential inhumane treatment.
