Un tratament experimental a îmbunătăţit structura osoasă şi a redus acumularea de grăsime după menopauză • Newsweek România

An experimental treatment has shown promise in improving bone structure and reducing fat accumulation in postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis risk increases with age, particularly after menopause due to decreased estrogen levels. Researchers at the University of East Anglia investigated CADD522, a small molecule initially developed for cancer treatment, which inhibits RUNX2, a protein crucial for bone formation. In studies with estrogen-deficient mice, the treatment increased bone volume and maintained trabecular structure. Additionally, it reduced body weight and peripheral fat without affecting food intake. The treatment also altered lipid metabolism, suggesting broader implications for health post-menopause. However, further research is needed to confirm safety and efficacy in humans.
