A wooden panel, previously used in a kitchen, was identified as a work by the famous artist Cimabue and sold for €24 million at auction. The panel, depicting Christ, was used by an elderly woman in France for years without her knowing its true value. An appraiser recognized it as a significant piece from the 13th century, part of a larger altarpiece. Only about 15 works by Cimabue exist, making this sale a record for medieval paintings. The woman passed away shortly after the auction, unaware of the panel's worth.
