Italian businessman Valter Lavitola admitted to orchestrating a bomb attack on journalist Sigfrido Ranucci to enhance his security. Initially suspected to be mafia-related, the attack occurred in October 2025, damaging Ranucci's and his daughter's cars. Lavitola's lawyer stated the attack was intended for Ranucci's protection amid threats from the mafia. Four accomplices were arrested in June, and Lavitola denied any political motives behind the attack. Investigators found evidence suggesting Lavitola had previously discussed Ranucci's potential political future, but there is no indication Ranucci was aware of the plot.
