Un obiect cosmic nemaivăzut a fost descoperit la 12.000 de ani-lumină. Ce îl face atât de neobișnuit? • Newsweek România
Astronomers have discovered a potential microblazar, IRAS 18293−0941, located 12,000 light-years away, featuring a black hole emitting jets of particles, one directed towards Earth. This system, consisting of a black hole and a massive star, rotates every 11 days, with the black hole drawing material from its companion star. Although the jet aimed at Earth poses no danger, it marks a significant find in the search for cosmic objects. The discovery is complicated by cosmic dust, but researchers have identified key characteristics of a microblazar, despite not observing expected brightness variations. This system could also be one of the strongest natural particle accelerators in the Milky Way.
