Archaeologists in Turkey have uncovered a new fragment of a 3,400-year-old clay tablet from the world's oldest known peace treaty, the Treaty of Kadesh. Signed around 1269 BC by Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II and Hittite King Hattusili III, this treaty marked the end of a long conflict. The newly found fragment, discovered in Hattuşa, contains provisions regarding the treatment of refugees, emphasizing the importance of human dignity. The treaty is notable for its clauses that prohibit the punishment of refugees and promote mutual assistance. Ongoing excavations may reveal more parts of this significant historical document, which symbolizes enduring peace and cooperation between the two ancient powers.
