The new school year brings increased costs for parents as prices for school supplies and books have risen by up to 12% over the past year. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the average price of school books increased by 12.03% from July 2025 to July 2026, while the average price of supplies rose by 7.54%. Romania recorded the highest annual inflation rate in the EU at 8.2% during this period. Significant price hikes were noted for various items, including drawing notebooks and school books, with increases exceeding 10%. The smallest price increases were observed for copier paper and colored pencils.
