Captain Marat Mambetov, a commander in the "Ghost of Kyiv" brigade, was killed when his MiG-29 was hit by a Russian missile on October 1. Despite ejecting from the aircraft, he did not survive. Mambetov, 25, was part of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, operating from Vasylkiv Air Base. The brigade uses outdated Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jets for combat missions against Russian forces.
