Un câine labrador negru a fost desemnat „animalul anului”. Patrupedul, premiat pentru o activitate neobișnuită • Newsweek România
A black Labrador named Sgiath has been awarded "Animal of the Year" for her role in marine ecology by identifying an invasive species known as "sea vomit." This creature, scientifically called Didemnum vexillum, poses a threat to local wildlife and coastal economies. Sgiath, trained by marine ecologist Dr. Texa Sim, has successfully detected hundreds of colonies of this harmful organism. The project began as an experiment to see if dogs could assist in marine conservation, and Sgiath's abilities have exceeded expectations. The invasive species, originating from Japan, has spread along the southern coasts of England and Wales since 2008, raising concerns about its impact on native species.
