Meta is developing a new submarine internet cable named Petal, which will connect the US to France across 7,000 kilometers. This cable will have a transmission capacity of one petabit per second, doubling the capacity of current transoceanic cables. The project aims to enhance global internet infrastructure and meet the increasing demand for data transfer. The cable is expected to be operational by 2029 and will utilize advanced fiber optic technology to achieve its high capacity. Approximately 100 repeaters will be installed along the route to amplify optical signals.
